Rotary Meeting October 7, 2015
Present 15 members, Two Rotarian guests from the ex
Quadra Club, Frances Kototyluk and Vicente Asuncion,
as well as our guest speaker Jennifer Yankanna.
John Haley did an spectular job reciting the Four Way Test, and
as did the club in the repeating it .
Announcements
1) Bill Sheddy is still taking names for the Rotary on Ice Giants game.This is good hockey.
2) The seniors lunch will take place on December 13th at the Coast Plaza hotel. We expect 250 seniors to attend. The event was made possible in large part by a member of the WESN who donated $10K.
3) Shail told us about an event the Arbutus club is organizing at the Blarney Stone pub in Gastown. Pasta for Polio dinner at 216Carral Street at 6pm on Thursday October 22nd 2015.Simple pasta and salad dinner.Cost$20.00 per person($10.00goes to Polio). Our guest speaker was Jennifer Yankanna from CNIBC which is a voluntary, non profit rehabilitation agency that provides services for people who are blind, visually impaired and deafblind.
Some of the highlights of her presentation were:
- They have 22K registered clients
- 3.3K of them in Vancouver
- Among the services they offer is cane training
- They also have orientation and mobility specialists on staff
- They offer counseling for people who become blind
- The annual cost to treat visual disabilities in Canada is 7.9B
